How MobileMe Won Me Back
When Apple announced MobileMe I was extremely excited about the ability to have push calendars, email and contacts. However, my excitement was quickly extinguished when MobileMe lost all my contacts and could not keep my Safari bookmarks organized. I tried to accept it, but ultimately I gave up on MobileMe. Let’s Rock - The Day Before
Most of you know that tomorrow, Apple is hosting the Let’s Rock Event in San Francisco, and there are many predictions and rumors swirling regarding this event. Here’s the rundown of what I expect to see from Apple tommorrow.
Pwnage Tool 2.0 Released
This evening the iPhone Dev Team released the Pwnage Tool 2.0. Pwnage 2.0 allows 1st Gen iPhone users to upgrade to Firmware 2.0 and the ability to jailbrake, activate and unlock the phone. It also allows jailbrakes on the iPod Touch 2.0 and the iPhone 3G. Those wanting the iPhone 3G unlocked will have to wait a bit longer, as this tool will not unlock the iPhone 3G. Update 2 - After downloading iPhone 2.0 firmware, I am having an issues getting Pwnage Tool to accept the 2.0 .ispw file. It continues to say that file can not be recognized. If anyone is having a similar issue please leave a comment and help me fix this issue. Thanks.
Update 3 - After some research and then feeling really stupid, I resolved the .ispw issue I was having. There are 2 different 2.0 firmwares; one for 1st Gen iPhone (iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw) and another for the 3G iPhone (iPhone 1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw). I was trying to use the 3G version for my 1st Gen iPhone. The Dev Team also released an update to the Pwnage Tool 2.0 (Pwnage Tool 2.0.1) to fix the bouncing dock issues where some users could not get the software to load. Once I fixed my firmware issues, the rest was a piece of cake. It was easy and painless. Thank you Dev Team!
Apple releases letter of apology, MobileMe Extension
Today, Apple sent out an email to MobileMe customers apologizing for the rocky transition from .Mac to MobileMe.
We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.
Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.
Another snag we have run into is our use of the word “push” in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe “cloud,” changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word “push” until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.
We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.

Apple also acknowledged that the use of the word “push” with regard to the desktop portion of their sync services was misleading and has changed their documentation to reflect that. They state that won’t use these terms “until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs” suggesting that this could come in the future.
Apple will be extending all MobileMe subscribers an automatic 30-day extension. [from MacRumors] This is a great move on Apple’s part to offer the 30 day extension of MobileMe. I have been using MobileMe since Saturday and it has been slow at times, but now seems to be working just fine.
iPhone 2.0 Software Release
Today Apple released the iPhone 2.0 Software update for all current iPhone owners. The iPhone 2.0 Software adds support for the following popular features:
- Microsoft Exchange
- MobileMe
- Apps Store
- Updated and Expanded Calculator
- iWork documents and Powerpoint files
The iPhone software update is available to all current iPhone owners via iTunes.
