Unlocked iPhones for Hong Kong
via MacNN
The iPhone 3G is now on sale directly from Apple in the city of Hong Kong, despite no prior announcements, listings reveal. An 8GB phone is selling for $5,400 HK ($692), while a 16GB model costs $6,200 HK ($794). Notably, iPhones in the region can be “activated with any wireless carrier,” according to Apple, and require only that a carrier’s SIM card be installed prior to sync with iTunes 8.

Introducing the T-Mobile G1
The first commercial handset running Google’s new Android OS will be the T-Mobile G1. The G1 is actually a rebranded HTC Dream as many had speculated. It will go on sale on October 22nd for $179 with a two year contract. It features a 3.17 inch 65K color touchscreen that runs in HVGA (480 x 320) resolution, internet navigation buttons and a full QWERTY keypad. It has a battery life of 5 hours for talk and 130 hours of standby. The G1 also incorporates a 3.1MP camera, GPS (for full Google Maps support with Street View and built in compass) and 1GB MicroSD memory included (upgradeable to 8GB).

The T-Mobile G1
The most suprising feature was the inclusion of the Amazon MP3 Store. It will come preloaded on every G1, allowing downloads of over 6 million DRM-free MP3’s from Amazon. Downloading will require a Wi-Fi connection however, you can preview songs over the T-Mobile network. The G1 will also feature the Android Market. The Android Market will allow downloading of various Android apps from the web to the phone. Data Plans details and more pictures after the break.
Tuesday App Showcase: AccuFuel
Tuesday App Showcase is a weekly look at my favorite Apps available from the Apps Store.
AccuFuel Fuel Efficiency Tracker is a powerful tool that makes monitoring your vehicle’s fuel efficiency simple and fun. With AccuFuel, you’ll instantly see how your driving habits affect your car’s fuel efficiency. The $.99 app allows you to track multiple vehicles with the swipe of your finger. I purchased the app about a month ago and decided to track my fuel usage as the price of gas approached close to $4 a gallon. The app is very easy to use and does everything I am looking for in a fuel tracking application. It has a breakdown for your fuel mileage overall and since your last fillup. You can simply add your fillup details by touching the gas pump in the center of the screen.

AccuFuel Mileage Splash Page
AccuFuel was designed and developed by Appigo, Inc. It is affordably priced at $.99 cents and is a great addition to Apps Store. Click here to purchase AccuFuel from the Apps Store. See more screenshots after the break.
T-Mobile & Android = HTC Dream?

Is this the first Android Device? The HTC Dream
Android, being labeled an iPhone killing platform by Time.com, is expected to debut on September 23rd at a T-Mobile special event. According to photos circulating on the internet, the first Android device will be the HTC Dream. The Dream is expected to be available in late October and reportedly cost $199, the same as the iPhone 3G. Time.com states “the sweetest part of the Dream is the add-on applications available from the Android Market.” Time.com reports that all the applications available at launch in the Android Market will be free. So will the Android platform be successful? We will have to wait and see, but I do believe it will be a successful platform. Here are three reasons Android will be a success:
- Google Android is open.
Unlike the iPhone, most of Android will be open source and it’s based on Linux - Many hardware options.
With the iPhone OS you are limited to one design from one manufacture. However with Android, there are lots of manufactures ready to distribute lots of different phones. Some Android phones will come with touchscreens, QWERTY keyboards, sliders and pull-outs. So many options can be a huge advantage to those who do not want to be tied down to a single design. - Google Apps
Duh! It will be the best Google Apps experience on any mobile device.
Since the Dream will be the first Android device it will receive a lot of press, but the true iPhone competitors will be launching with Android OS in 2009. Then we will have a better gauge of how Android will stack up to the iPhone.
